The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) is one of the oldest, biggest, and most renowned global programming contests. Participants are undergraduate students from various parts of the world, with numbers of universities hosting regional competitions that filter teams to the World Finals.

In 2011, the first time that SIU teams attended the ACM-ICPC Thailand contest, one of our teams passed through the national round. Although our team did not make it to the regional contest, they were one of the so-called “best” 90 teams around Thailand.

It was a long journey for all the contestants and they have worked tirelessly for months in order to prepare for the contest. Besides knowledge gained, there was experience, creativity and teamwork which all the contestants discovered during the two months of training and competition. This is considered as an achievement beyond expectation since it is the first time SIU participated. The next step is preparing teams for next year’s contest in 2012 when we aim to achieve a higher rank.
